Nail It

How to update your nails now. Colour blocking is so hot right now and acid brights  will be sticking around for yet another season. To shy to try  spring/summers citrus bright eye shadows? Go with electric neon shades for a subtle flash of colour on your nails. Try shades of sunflower, lime yellow, candy pink, brilliant blue and shocking red.

What exactly is colour blocking? -  Essentially it’s a clashing of solid bright colours.  The colour-blocking trend began about a year ago in the fashion world and it literally means an outfit made up of 'blocks' of solid colour.  For Spring/ Summer 2011/12 the look has made it’s way into the makeup arena with contrasting electric blue eyes and coral lips.  Or try any other combination that  has 2 solid brights clash on the lips and eyelids like a fuchsia pout and purple nails or yellow eye shadow ( so hot right now) and lime green nails.

Now colour blocking is hitting the Nail Art scene. Multi toned mani's are big news. With a lot of celebrities like Gwen Stefani, Rhianna and Alexa Chung seen on the red carpet sporting varying  colour combinations from more subtle clashings of colour to two toned neon brights.
Choose complimentary colours for maximum impact.  Try clashing pink and yellow, orange and blue, green and black to create the most effective blocking effect.

Personally  I’m not a big fan of this look in neon brights as I prefer to wear black, red or a deep purple nail polish. For a subtle change I have tried the black and emerald green combination for work for a flash of electric nail colour.  For those that usually opt for a more neutral  tone or french manicure I would suggest you try this trend for a night out, once you feel confident  you can  lash out with some colour for day.
In the mood for something a little edgier? I did take a look at Dita Von Teese  new nail art collection when it was released online recently and have thought this is something I would consider wearing for summer. Amanda Lapore seems to be a fan of this look too.
“Painted in a super shiny and chip resistant cherry red lacquer, and half-moon shape
mimic a style that was popular during the 1930s and 1940s among Hollywood screen sirens’

"I wanted to offer a shortcut to obtaining the nail style that I have been wearing for the last 20 years, and Kisshas helped make it a reality,” Von Teese said in a statement. The half-moon mani was considered a status symbol back in the day. "I think it was a way of showing that you had someone take the time to DO your nails and perfectly paint the half-moon rather than doing them yourself. If you look very, very closely, the most glamorous and iconic portraits of the 1930s and 1940s show the half-moon manicure.”

The set costs US $9.99 and comes with gel glue and 24 nails in 12 sizes to ensure a perfect fit.

The reverse moon was also seen at Romance Was Born RAFW.

What colours will you be wearing this summer?
